One, Two, Three

Brief Description

A partner exercise where a simple counting rhythm is gradually replaced by movements.

Group Size: 2+ people
Difficulty: Easy
Materials: None
Duration: 5-10 minutes

Game Description:

This game can be played with any group size.

Form pairs.

Round 1: Partners face each other and take turns counting "1, 2, 3" (Max: 1, Linda: 2, Max: 3, Linda: 1, Max: 2...).
Round 2: Instead of saying "1," clap your hands (Max: claps, Linda: 2, Max: 3, Linda: claps, Max: 2...).
Round 3: Instead of saying "2," jump in place (Max: claps, Linda: jumps, Max: 3, Linda: claps, Max: jumps, Linda: 3...).
Round 4: Instead of saying "3," spin around once (Max: claps, Linda: jumps, Max: spins, Linda: claps...).

Afterward, you can reverse the process, going backward through the rounds until you return to the initial counting.

Notes:

This is a good foundational exercise for counting rhythms in juggling – see, for example, Gandini - Patterns from Hell.
