Ace Two Three - Card Catch

Short Description

A tactical team game using playing cards, where card values, communication, and targeted duels determine which cards are won.

Group Size: 20+ people
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: One full deck of cards, possibly two
Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

Game Description:

Players are divided into two, three, or four equal teams based on group size. Each team receives a deck of cards in their assigned suit (e.g., diamonds, spades, clubs, or hearts), ranging from 2 to Ace. Additionally, each team selects a captain and a "base camp." The team captain holds the deck of cards and can give a card to a player on their team; they can only look at the top card. Players who have received a card can then go out and find players from other teams to tag. The tagged player must reveal their card. The goal is to determine whose card is higher. The card ranking is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace, with the special rule that the 2 beats the Ace. If a player's card is higher than the tagged player's card, they win the tagged player's card. If their card is lower, they must give it to the other player. If a player has already won one or more cards and subsequently loses a duel (only the card received from the captain is used in each duel), they must give all their cards to the winner. Players who have won cards can deposit them at their team's base camp with the captain, where they are safe and cannot be stolen. This game requires a lot of communication so teams can strategize about who has which card and, for example, strategically use their 2s against opposing Aces. If the game is intended to last longer, teams can also be given a double or triple set of cards.
