Beigoma Tournament Match

Brief Description

A beginner-friendly Beigoma tournament format where one-on-one matches are decided by reaching two wins.

Group Size: 4-64 people
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: Beigoma, strings, playing floor, tournament bracket
Duration: 15-60 minutes

Game Description:

Tournament Match is a common Beigoma competition format. Players compete one-on-one and advance through a bracket. Tokyo Beigoma notes that detailed tournament rules can vary by region, so the local rule should be announced before the first match.

Two players face each other. On the shared start call, both throw their Beigoma into the floor at the same time. The first player to win two rounds advances.

A player wins a round by knocking the opponent out of the floor, spinning longer than the opponent, or benefiting from the opponent's repeated floor miss according to the local rule.

Beginner-Friendly Floor Miss Rule:

In strict play, a single floor miss can count as a loss. For beginner tournaments, Tokyo Beigoma describes a softer rule: a player only loses the round after two consecutive floor misses.

This helps beginners stay in the match long enough to experience real play, while still keeping some tension.

Rethrows:

Repeat the round when:

  • both players miss the floor
  • both tops clash and leave the floor at the same time
  • the result cannot be judged clearly

Variants:

For advanced groups, use strict floor-miss rules and allow fewer rethrows.

For children or first-time players, allow more floor-miss attempts before counting a loss.

Notes:

This format gives a clear winner, but it can eliminate beginners quickly. Use practice rounds before the tournament starts.
