Building Machines

This activity can be seen as an extension of the Pictures exercise: instead of a static image, the group creates a looped movement.

A Machine for...

Groups have 10 minutes to build a machine with a specific purpose, such as:

  • hammering nails
  • cleaning the world
  • connecting things
  • bouncing
  • writing letters

Props are used.

A Circus Machine

Groups have 10 minutes to build a machine and incorporate specific rules, such as:

  • a minimum of 5 balls, 2 hoops, and 1 scarf must be used
  • at least one object must move from bottom to top
  • a more difficult variation: spiral movement
  • within one cycle of the machine's operation, there must be 3 throws and 1 roll
  • each mode of the machine must include 2 squats during its operation

The possibilities for rules are limited only by the imagination of the group and the facilitator.
