Polar Bear on the Ice Floe

Brief Description

A movement game where the group pushes a mat forward as an ice floe, while a polar bear tries to stop them.

Group Size: 10+ participants
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: One thick mat
Game Duration: 5 to 10 minutes

Game Description:

The game leader or a player sits on the thick mat and acts as the polar bear on its floe. The ice floe starts at a starting line, and the finish line is some distance away at the other end of the playing area.

The participants try to push the floe from the starting line to the finish line. However, the polar bear doesn't like this at all because it just wants to be left alone. Therefore, it tries to tag the players who are pushing. Anyone who gets tagged must run all the way back to the starting line and, optionally, even perform a small penalty (e.g., five burpees or similar). Only then can they return to the floe and try to push it further towards the goal.

If the floe reaches the finish line, the polar bear admits defeat and leaves its ice floe. With enough players, the game can also be played as an ice floe race between two groups.
