Fire Water Sand

Short Description

A command game where the group quickly reacts to called-out terms and finds suitable movements or positions.

Group Size: 4+ players
Difficulty: Easy
Materials: Elevated surfaces (e.g., benches), optional drum
Game Duration: 5-15 minutes

Game Description:

All players move freely around the room. If a drum is available, the facilitator can set a rhythm for the players to move to – sometimes faster, sometimes slower. The facilitator can then call out various commands that the players must execute.

Commands:

Fire: When this command is given, the facilitator points in the direction where the "fire" is. Players must then move as quickly as possible to the opposite side, getting as far away from the fire as possible.

Water: All players must quickly get onto something elevated so that they are no longer touching the floor.

Sand: When this command is called, everyone quickly lies down on their stomachs on the floor to avoid sinking in the sand.

Ice: Everyone freezes in place.

Sun: All players lie on their backs on the floor, as if they are sunbathing.

Gum: This command requires all players to stick to a wall.

Coffee Break: Players sit on the floor in a cross-legged position and clap their hands three times.

Cola: Like a cola in a cup, everyone stands up straight and extends one arm upwards – this is the straw.

Bug: Everyone lies on their backs, stretches their arms and legs into the air, and tries in vain to flip over for a few seconds.

Fries: In this command, players must lie down next to each other in groups of three. (If the number of players is not divisible by three, groups of four are also acceptable.)

Storm: Everyone must hold onto something to avoid being blown away.

You can be very creative with the terms and invent many more commands to play with. This game can also be played with elimination, where the slowest player or the one who performs the action incorrectly is eliminated.

Variations:

This game variation is called "Every man for himself." The principle is the same, but the facilitator can be even more creative. Whenever the facilitator says, "Every man for himself if you can..." players must execute the command that follows. For example: "Every man for himself if you can hop on one leg." What the facilitator adds in the blank is entirely up to them. Whether it's hopping on one leg, picking your nose, or spinning in a circle, anything the facilitator can think of is possible.
