Hand Slap

Brief Description

A reaction game played in a circle, where hands are clapped in rhythm and pulled away at the right moment.

Group Size: 5+ participants
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: None
Playtime: Approx. 6 minutes

Game Description:

All participants sit in a circle. Each person places their right hand to their right, pointing towards their right-hand neighbor. Then, each player places their left hand in front of the right hand of their left-hand neighbor. The game leader chooses a number between 2 and 21 and says it aloud. Next, the leader says the number "one" aloud while gently clapping their left hand against the left hand of their right-hand neighbor (which is positioned in front of their own right hand). The person whose hand was just touched, meaning their right-hand neighbor, does the same, but no longer says a number aloud. Everyone must now silently count along as the claps move around the circle. When the number chosen by the game leader at the start is reached, the person whose turn it is to clap, and their right-hand neighbor, must act quickly. The person whose turn it is tries to clap their neighbor's hand as usual, but the neighbor tries to pull their hand away beforehand. However, the neighbor may only pull their hand away once the hand attempting the clap is no longer touching it, meaning it is "on its way." Whichever of the two fails to achieve their goal is out for this round. The person remaining in the game chooses a new number. Anyone who makes a mistake, such as clapping at the wrong time or pulling their hand away too early, is also out. The last player remaining wins.
