Game Description:¶
"Cat and Mouse" is a game that only becomes truly fun once all participants have fully understood the rules. One person is designated as the cat and another as the mouse. All other participants stand in a circle, alternating between looking into the circle and looking outward, holding hands. The cat then tries to catch the mouse, but there's a catch.
The mouse is small enough to easily dart into the circle and just as easily dart back out. However, the circle's perimeter is impassable for the cat.
If the cat is outside the circle and the mouse has escaped to the center, the cat can tag a player standing in the circle who is looking into the circle (because that's where the cat wants to go). The tagged player becomes the new cat and is now inside the circle. The former cat takes the newly vacant spot.
If the cat wants to get out of the circle, the same principle applies: tag someone looking out of the circle and take their place. If the cat succeeds in catching the mouse, their roles are swapped, and the cat becomes the mouse, and the mouse becomes the cat.
With many participants, you can even designate multiple cat-and-mouse pairs. However, each cat may only catch their designated mouse. Having multiple pairs makes the game even more challenging for the players.
