Tag Match Tournament
Short Description
A team-based Beigoma tournament where pairs compete in four-player rounds, with the first team to reach two points advancing.
Group Size: 4-40 people
Difficulty: Medium
Materials: Beigoma, strings, playing surfaces, tournament bracket, lottery or team cards
Duration: 20-60 minutes
Game Description:¶
The Beigoma Team Tournament is designed for groups with significant skill disparities. Beginners are paired with more experienced players, making them less likely to be eliminated simply for missing the playing surface or losing a single duel.
The shared team score makes victories more social and helps experienced players mentor beginners.
Form pairs, preferably by lottery. If there are many beginners, adjust the draw so that two beginners don't play together too often. Enter the teams into a tournament bracket. Decide whether there will be a "loser revival" round.
Two teams compete simultaneously, meaning four players spin their tops onto the playing surface. If one team's top remains on the surface the longest, that team earns 1 point. If no tops remain on the surface, the round is a draw and is repeated. The first team to reach 2 points wins the match.
The winning teams advance to the next round. The losing teams are eliminated unless a "loser revival" rule is applied. The last remaining team wins the tournament.
Rules:¶
- Before the tournament, decide whether Riki wins (spinning out the opponent's top) are allowed, or if only Hajiki wins (spinning your top out of the opponent's top) count.
- Use normal Beigoma if many beginners are playing.
- Use only Hajiki rules if many experienced players are participating and you want the game to be more dynamic.
Notes:¶
This is a good format if you want the event to feel cooperative rather than purely individual. It also gives experienced players a constructive role.
