Come Along, Run Away
Brief Description
A running game in a circle where tapped individuals must run along or start in the opposite direction upon command.
Group Size: 5+, suitable for large groups
Difficulty: Easy
Materials: None
Game Duration: 5 to 15 minutes
Game Description:¶
This game focuses on quick reactions and changes in direction. The basic idea is that a chaser taps a person or an entire team and gives a command that requires an immediate response.
Variations:¶
Variation 1: Large Group Size¶
The group is divided into several equally sized teams. The teams stand in a circle. A chaser runs around the outside of the circle. The chaser taps the last person of a team or any person in the circle and calls out either "Come with!" or "Run away!".
- "Come with!": The tapped person (or the entire team) runs in the same direction as the chaser outside the circle and tries to get back to their original spot as quickly as possible before the chaser takes it.
- "Run away!": The tapped person (or the entire team) runs in the opposite direction of the chaser outside the circle and tries to get back to their original spot as quickly as possible before the chaser takes it.
Variation 2: Small Group Size¶
All participants stand together in a circle. A chaser is chosen. This person runs around the outside of the circle. They tap a person of their choice on the shoulder and say either "Come with!" or "Run away!". The tapped person now runs around the circle, either in the same or opposite direction as the chaser, depending on the command, and both try to get back to the empty spot.
