Game Description¶
Quidditch Juggle is a large team game inspired by Quidditch, but adapted for a circus convention setting. Two teams try to score points by moving a ball through the playing field and throwing it through a target hoop. At the same time, special roles create extra movement, disruption and tactical choices.
A simple version works with the following roles:
- Chasers move the main ball and try to score through the opposing target.
- Keepers defend the target area.
- Beaters use soft balls to temporarily stop opposing players.
- Seekers try to complete a separate side task, such as catching a scarf, finding a hidden object, or completing a juggling challenge.
Players may only move with the main ball while completing the agreed circus task, for example juggling three balls, passing while moving, or keeping one ball in a simple toss pattern. If a player drops, they must stop, reset the pattern, and then continue.
The main game ends after a fixed time. The team with the most points wins. If the seeker task is used, completing it gives a bonus score or ends the round immediately, depending on the chosen rules.
Basic Rules¶
- Mark a rectangular field with one target hoop or scoring zone at each end.
- Split the group into two teams and assign roles.
- Chasers score by getting the main ball through the opposing target.
- Players carrying or controlling the main ball must keep the agreed juggling task active.
- Beaters may tag or hit opponents only with soft balls and only below shoulder height.
- A tagged player pauses briefly, returns to a reset point, or completes a small penalty task before rejoining.
- The seeker task runs alongside the main game and should be visible enough that both teams understand when it is completed.
- The team with the highest score at the end wins.
Variations¶
- For a beginner version, remove beaters and seekers and play only chasers, keepers and target scoring.
- For a juggling-heavy version, require every chaser to keep a three-ball cascade or one-ball toss pattern active while moving.
- For a safer children’s version, use only soft balls, walking speed and no body contact.
- For a convention version, make the seeker task absurd: catch a scarf, find a tiny golden prop, complete a trick sequence, or win a short side duel.
Safety Notes¶
This game can become chaotic because it combines running, throwing, roles and props. Use soft balls only, forbid tackles and body blocking, and define clear reset rules for drops and tags. Keep the field large enough that players can see where they are moving while handling props.
