Unicycle Musical Chairs
Short Description
A unicycle adaptation of musical chairs, where players race to mount one of the remaining unicycles when the music stops.
Group Size: 4 to 30 players
Difficulty: schwer
Material: Unicycles, music player, optional barriers
Duration: approx. 5-15 minutes
Game Description¶
This is a direct unicycle version of the classic movement game musical chairs, known in German as "Reise nach Jerusalem". In the original game there is always one chair fewer than players, and whoever fails to get a seat when the music stops is out. Here, the chairs are replaced by unicycles.
Place one fewer unicycle than players in a line or marked area. While the music plays, players move around the space without touching the unicycles. When the music stops, everyone tries to reach, grab and mount one of the unicycles. The player who does not get onto a unicycle is out. Remove one unicycle and start the next round.
The game continues until only two players and one unicycle remain. The player who gets onto the final unicycle wins.
Variations¶
- Add a longer route around cones or barriers before players may reach the unicycles.
- Require players to ride a short distance after mounting before the round counts.
- For a safer version, players only have to touch or stand next to a unicycle instead of mounting it quickly.
Safety Notes¶
The risky moment is the rush toward the unicycles. Keep enough space between props, forbid pushing and grabbing other players, and use clear lanes if the group is large. Only require fast mounting if all participants can mount safely under pressure.
