Supporting CircusWiki¶
In a nutshell
CircusWiki is openly accessible, ad-free, and oriented towards the common good. To ensure this works long-term, we need support for technical costs, tools, and the further development of our knowledge base.
CircusWiki aims to remain a public resource: without paywalls, without advertising, and without hidden commercial interests. This is important because the content is intended to be useful for people in a wide variety of contexts: associations, schools, social projects, circus groups, educators, trainers, artists, and interested individuals.
At the same time, a project like this is not free. Even though no human labor is currently paid for, ongoing and project-related costs are incurred.
What Support is Needed For¶
Support is primarily needed for:
- Technical infrastructure
- Domain, hosting, and software costs
- Translation and language model costs
- Archiving and preparing old materials
- Tools for image editing, OCR, transcription, and quality control
- Long-term maintenance and safeguarding of content
Currently, the main focus is on reliably covering technical and organizational costs. Paid editorial or pedagogical work is not the standard at the moment, but it could be a long-term goal if transparent and fair structures are established for it.
No Advertising¶
We do not want to finance CircusWiki through advertising.
Advertising would make the site more cluttered, raise data privacy issues, and create false incentives. The knowledge base should not thrive on selling as much attention as possible, but on people finding it useful and supporting it voluntarily.
Donations and Funding¶
Grants are helpful, but they are often project-specific, time-limited, and involve a high administrative overhead. For ongoing operation, CircusWiki also needs a simpler form of support.
The most straightforward way is through donations.
A donation option will be added here as soon as the appropriate technical and accounting processes are cleanly set up.
If you would like to support the project now or discuss funding, cooperation, or institutional support, please write to us:
Transparency¶
We want to openly show how funds are used.
To achieve this, expenses and project-related costs are recorded internally in a traceable manner. The goal is to regularly publish understandable reports, for example:
- What costs were incurred during a period
- What income or donations were received
- What funds were used for
- What major expenses are planned
The exact format of these reports is still under development. The principle is important: anyone who supports CircusWiki should be able to understand what happens with the money.
Open Source and Open Content¶
CircusWiki is designed as an open, version-controlled knowledge base. The content should remain usable, verifiable, and further developable in the long term.
Therefore, support not only helps with running a website. It helps to preserve practical knowledge, translate it, and keep it accessible to others.
Other Ways to Help¶
Money is not the only form of support.
You can also help by:
